1 Day Tour In The Mekong Delta,Vietnam

The ‘rice bowl’ of Vietnam, also known as Mekong Delta in the south is covered by brown water and surrounded by greenery. Experiencing the Mekong Delta is amazing with fun filled activities which was briefly mentioned in the previous post 9 Reasons to visit Ho Chi Minh City but coincidentally the most memorable adventure in Ho Chi Minh City.

Tours tend to include stops at souvenir shops or local factories, which I personally find a waste of time, therefore being skeptical, I only signed up for the one day tour which include activities such as :

1) CITY ESCAPE

Once in a while, the best thing to do by escaping the hustle and bustle of the city just for a day is to experience nature, to feel the fresh strong wind and to enjoy the mystery of the forests. Spending just 1 day in the Mekong Delta will actually accomplish your escape to nature.

2) BOAT RIDES

Surrounded by water, your only transportation for the adventure is by boat. Feeling the fresh strong wind amongts other travelers while busy taking picture is an amazing experience.

3) BEE FARM

Besides reading articles online or a watching documentary on TV that shows you how honey is produced, you get to experience it here with detailed explanation on how honey is made from the guide. The bees are brought to you for picture purposes, and the delicious fresh honey is served with tea for tasting.

4) FRUIT FARM

Agriculture is among the most important economic sector of Vietnam and the Mekong Delta provides suitable place for fruit production. There are numerous fruit farms along your journey and you are able to indulge freshly picked fruits during your rest stops.

5) LISTENING TO TRADITIONAL MUSIC

Upon touring the Mekong Delta, there are many rest stops to freshen up and this happens to be the most entertaining one with locals performing live traditional music.

6) COCONUT CANDY FACTORY

A main course meal would not be completed without desserts, hence you have the coconut candy factory to spoil you with treats made from coconut plus malt sugar. The factory showcases how the candy is being produced from the beginning of cooking to wrapping it for sales.

7) FLOAT ON SAMPANS

Ever wondered how traveling on water is like back in the days? This memorable sampan experience traveling from one location to another was COOL (at least to me). Boat paddlers will manually row the sampan bringing you across the brown water surrounded by greenery leaving you with your own collection and photographs of the river scenery.

8) FRIED ELEPHANT FISH EARS

One of the main highlight is the fried elephant fish ears, a specialty food of Mekong Delta. This fresh water fish is crispy on the outside but tender on the inside and the scales are not removed before cooking. The fish is served with rice, vegetables, herbs, hot and sour fish sauce which is so delicious.

Unfortunately, these activities are only available for the full day trip which gives me a good reason to return and experience the other long trip packages available.
